The ‘Jollof’ Derby between Nigeria and Ghana ended in favor of the Nigerians after the friendly match between both countries.
The international friendly, held at the Grande Stade de Marrakech, Morocco, saw the Nigerian side put the ball in the back of the net twice.
A wrong tackle in the 38th minute saw the referee award a penalty to the Super Eagles which was taken by Rangers FC forward, Cyril Dessers. The penalty gave Nigeria the lead in the first half.
Atalanta winger, Ademola Lookman doubled the goal for Nigeria in the 84th minute.
In what would be a surprising moment, the Black Stars got awarded a penalty against Nigeria in injury time of 90+5 minutes. The penalty was taken by Crystal Palace winger, Jordan Ayew.
However. before the match, the usual banter between Nigerians and Ghanaians had already begun on social media.
While the organizers tagged the match a friendly, the fans of both countries beg to differ. “A match between Nigeria and Ghana will never be a friendly”, they said.
Both countries are popularly referred to as ‘siblings’ who are in an unending rivalry about everything, from sports to local dishes like who has the better ‘Jollof rice’, to music, etc.
