In the build-up to the World Cup qualifiers, some Super Eagles Players have arrived camp ahead of the team’s friendlies against the Black Stars of Ghana and Eagles of Mali.
Some of the early birds to arrive at the Super Eagles camp include Rangers forward Cyril Dessers, Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella, Nantes’ Simon Moses, Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali, Fisayo Bashiru, Fulham duo of Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins and Bruno Onyemachi.
It is expected that others will arrive later on. However, it is still uncertain whether Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Tyrone Ebuehi, and Taiwo Awoniyi will be available.
Also, the Ghana Black Stars duo of Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams both asked “not to be included in the Ghana squad” ready to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Both players have cited injuries and inadequate physical conditions as the reason for their absence from the friendly match.
The First training session is set for March 19, 2024, at 4:30pm. Enyimba FC Boss, Finidi George may likely oversee the session as the interim coach following the contract expiration of Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro.
The friendly match between Nigeria and Ghana is scheduled for March 22, 2024, while the match between Nigeria and Mali is scheduled for March 26th, 2024.
Nigeria will play against South Africa and Benín Republic on June 3 and June 10, 2024, respectively, for the FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
