Nigeria’s star goalkeeper who made his debut with the Super Eagles at the AFCON 2023, Stanley Nwabali, has apologised to Nigerians for disappointing them.
The Chippa United goalkeeper took to his instagram page with emotional pictures to apologise to disappointed Nigerians after the heartbreaking loss to Cote D’ivoire yesterday.
He said, “ A disappointing and frustrating end. I deeply apologise to Nigerians. I was once a fan, still a fan and I understand how it feels giving you a disappointing night. We take full responsibility. Thanks for the whole support till the end. I love you all ??.”
However, Nigerians were not having it, as they have stormed his comment section scolding him for apologising. 99.9% of the comments, including blue tick accounts and public figures have praised the 27 year old and called him ‘Nigeria’s hero’.
Here are some of the comments;
Recall that Nigeria lost the chance at clinching her fourth AFCON title yesterday when they conceded two goals in the second half of the final playoff with Ivory Coast.
Nigeria has struggled to fill the shoes of Vincent Enyeama since his retirement, until Stanley Nwabali was called up in December 2023 for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Nwabali had an impressive record of four clean sheets throughout the AFCON 2023 tournament, including being awarded Man of the Match after his phenomenal two penalty saves against South Africa that plunged Nigeria into the semi-finals.
