On Thursday, March 29, officials from enforcement agencies operating under the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources heightened their efforts to remove banned Styrofoam food containers from markets across the state.
This exercise came after the Lagos state government decided to prohibit the use of Styrofoam earlier this year in January. The ban was announced by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who cited the environmental damage caused by single-use plastics, particularly non-biodegradable Styrofoams, as the reason for the decision.
