For the first time in the pageant’s history, the Middle East and oil-rich country, Saudi Arabia, will compete in the Miss Universe 2024 competition.
A 27-year-old model and content creator, Rumy Alqahtani, who was born in Riyadh, will represent Saudi Arabia in the pageant.
Announcing on her Instagram page, the model wrote in Arabic, “Honoured to participate in the Miss Universe 2024. This is the first participation of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe competition”.
Alqahtani has previously competed in several international pageants as a representative of Saudi Arabia, such as Miss Asia in Malaysia, Miss Arab Peace, and Miss Europe.
She also won the titles of Miss Middle East (Saudi Arabia), Miss Arab World Peace 2021, and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia), in addition to being awarded Miss Saudi Arabia.
Rumy Alqahtani is proficient in Arabic, French, and English and holds a bachelor’s degree in dentistry.
The model will become the second woman from the Gulf area to participate in the competition after Lujane Yacoub, who represented Bahrain in the Miss Universe competition last year.
The 73rd Miss Universe pageant is scheduled for September 28, 2024, and will be held in Mexico, where reigning queen, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown her successor.
