KFC Nigeria has issued a formal apology following the closure of one of its outlets by the country’s airport authority, amid allegations of discrimination against a disabled customer. Adebola Daniel, the son of former Nigerian state governor Gbenga Daniel, took to social media platform X to recount his experience of being asked to leave a KFC outlet at Lagos airport due to his wheelchair.
His post quickly stirred widespread condemnation and triggered an investigation by the federal airport authority, ultimately resulting in the closure of the branch.
In a detailed account shared by Mr. Daniel, he described the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, as “the most degrading form of public humiliation” he had ever faced. He expressed feeling dehumanized and ostracized, comparing himself to a guard dog barred from entering a house.
Mr. Daniel alleged that despite pleas from his wife and two brothers, who were accompanying him on the trip, the manager of the KFC outlet at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria’s busiest airport, refused to serve him.
