Award winning and renowned Nigerian professional dancer Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, also known as Kaffy, has revealed that she took up dancing as a means to enhance her mental well-being. In a recent interview on Channels TV, Kaffy shared that, having grown up with a single parent, dancing became her source of comfort. She later transformed her dance skills into a fitness awareness initiative at the Lagos State National Stadium to bring vitality to people’s lives. Kaffy expressed that dancing initially served as a personal refuge during her teenage years, helping her navigate the challenges of a divorced parenting environment. Eventually, she discovered its broader impact on others’ need for escapism and extended her engagement to the national stadium before entering the entertainment realm.
According to her: “Before I even thought of dancing as a profession, I always saw it as something to help me with my mental health.”
“And growing up in that average Nigerian household, you have divorced parenting. You are trying to navigate through life as a young teenager. Dancing was the art form in which I found solace. I used it as an escape to somewhere I could become something.”
“And when I related with others in the social environment, I found out that people needed some escape. I started exploring that at the national stadium until I found the entertainment space.”
