Nigeria’s energetic Super Eagles have touched down in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, filled with excitement for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Dressed in traditional African attire, the team departed from Lagos on Wednesday after a strategic week-long camp in Abu Dhabi.
A spirited send-off dinner, graciously hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, added to the team’s enthusiasm before their journey. Now settled at the Pullman Hotel in Abidjan, they are gearing up for their first challenge against Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium on Sunday.
The AFCON tournament, starting on Saturday, January 13th, promises a thrilling clash among 24 African nations competing for the prestigious trophy. Spread across five Ivorian cities – Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, San-Pedro, and Korhogo – the tournament will feature 52 matches, culminating to the grand finale.
Placed in Group A, the Super Eagles are pump up, aspiring to secure another star to add to their three AFCON titles, with the last victory achieved in 2013.
Despite a recent loss in a friendly match against Guinea, Coach Jose Peseiro’s squad remains undeterred, viewing it as a valuable opportunity to test new tactics and refine their strategy for the tournament.
