Ugandan Opposition Leader, Kizza Besigye, Arrested Again

Just a few days after the electoral commission declared Yoweri Museveni the winner of the Ugandan elections, an Opposition leader has been arrested.

President Museveni’s victory in the elections secured him a fifth term to extend a thirty year rule which began in 1986. Museveni’s staunchest rival is the leader ofย The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC),ย Kizza Besigye, who was placed under house arrest shortly before the elections after he had threatened to release the results of the election.

He was then arrested by Police on Thursday when the elections were taking place after he alleged that the votes were being rigged.

Kizza Besigye was rearrested this morning and taken to a Police station over a planned rally by his party to protest the elections he described as a sham.
