Tennis Star Serena Williams Withdraws From US Open Due To Injury
American professional Tennis player, Serena Williams has pulled out of the 2021 US Open because of a hamstring injury.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner, took to her Instagram page on Wednesday, 24th August 2021 to announce her withdrawal.
Her post read;
“After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring.
“New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favourite places to play – I’ll miss seeing the fans but will be cheering everyone on from afar.
“Thank you for your continued support and love. I’ll see you soon”.
The 141st edition of the US Open Tennis Championships is scheduled to start next week, 30th August 2021.
A hamstring injury is a strain or tear to the tendons or large muscles at the back of the thigh. It is an injury common in athletes.
Williams has not played since suffering the injury at Wimbledon, England, in June.
