Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he secretly walked the floor of San Diego Comic-Con dressed as Deadpool without handlers, security or special access, describing the experience as a memorable gift from fans who have supported the character for years.

The actor surprised audiences during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation on Saturday when he appeared wearing a grey denim version of Deadpool’s suit. However, many convention-goers had already crossed paths with Reynolds earlier in the day, mistaking him for a regular Deadpool cosplayer as he stopped for photos and selfies.

In a video shared after the event, Reynolds confirmed he had successfully blended into the crowd.

“The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago. Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly years years after ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world. No handlers, no security, no ropes. WHAT A GIFT. Thanks to everyone I met, who aren’t only cosplaying but world-building. And also… actual Sergeant Slaughter!”

The video also captured Reynolds entering the Marvel presentation, where Robert Downey Jr. jokingly asked, “Who’s this guy with the swords and stuff?”

Reynolds responded, “Long-time listener, first-time caller. This seems an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?”

The appearance comes as Reynolds continues to tease the future of Deadpool. Speaking recently, he said, “There’s eventually, you know, remotely another ‘Deadpool’ film. So it’s going to be great.”

Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds also hinted that the character may return in a supporting role rather than as the centre of a future film.
