“They should follow the standard practice” – Efe Omorogbe shares
In the clip, Efe Omorogbe shared that he was invited to join the mediating as a music business expert. He noted that he was asked about the Master’s right and who usually owns it.
Omorogbe also stated that during the mediation he explained how the master right of records is usually owned by the record label and what an artist has to do for it to be transferred to him/her.
The music entrepreneur also noted that at the time, he used Burna Boy’s case with Spaceship Records and his former label as a reference point. Omorogbe further clarified that he told Mercy Chinwo and Judikay that if they wanted to reclaim their masters, then they would have to pay whatever value placed on it by the record label.
He noted that it was simple, “I want to buy, then a value is drawn up, negotiation happens and you pay the estimation. A simple buy and sell contract.”
