Everton‘s owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are open to selling a controlling stake in the club to attract fresh investment. The move comes after efforts to improve the club’s finances and complete its new stadium.
The US-based group announced the decision on Friday, less than two years after buying Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December 2024.
Why TFG Is Considering a Sale
TFG took over Everton when the club faced financial difficulties and prolonged instability. Since then, the group has overseen the club’s move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and worked to improve its finances.
In a statement, the owners said their initial focus was to stabilise the club and secure its future.
“When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch,” the owners said.
They added that their immediate priority was to provide the support and investment needed to secure Everton’s future. This included completing the new stadium.
“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton.”
Transfer Window Criticism
The decision follows a summer transfer window that drew criticism from Everton supporters, according to British media reports.
The club generated significant income from player sales but made only limited additions to its squad before the deadline.
TFG said it would consider proposals only from parties it believed could build on the progress made since its takeover. The group also pledged to continue supporting Everton on and off the pitch throughout the process.
Investment Bank Appointed
TFG has appointed investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the potential sale.
The group also owns Italian club AS Roma and French side AS Cannes.
