Afrobeat singer Made Kuti has dismissed the belief that every member of the Kuti family uses narcotics. He said the claim is false and does not reflect his family.
Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle during the United States mission’s 250th Independence Day celebration in Lagos, Made said many people wrongly think he and his relatives use drugs.
“A lot of people think I smoke, but I don’t, and even my dad has quit. So, there is a big misconception that the family are all into narcotics, but most of us are not,” he said.
Narcotics are medicines used to treat moderate to severe pain. They are similar to opiates such as morphine and codeine, but are not made from opium.
Made also described himself as “hardworking, loyal and passionate,” before joking that “loyal” fits because “I’m a married man”.
When asked which Nigerian artist he listens to most, the singer named his grandfather.
