Afrobeat singer Made Kuti has explained why he chose not to kneel while proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyeso, saying he viewed marriage as a mutual decision rather than a plea.
Speaking during an interview on the Timeless podcast, the 30-year-old artist said his decision was rooted in his personal belief about relationships and partnerships.
“And I did not go down on one knee. Because I told her that this is a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other,” he said.

Made revealed that he proposed to Inedoye during a romantic trip to Paris after saving money from performances to fund the getaway. According to him, the proposal almost did not happen because both of them disliked the starters served at the restaurant where he planned the special moment.
“I made some money from some shows. I did some stuff, booked a flight for both of us to Paris. Then, we spent a week there. Then I booked a table for a three-course meal,” he continued.
“It almost did not happen that day because the starters that they brought were disgusting. Both of us were complaining. So I said I could not propose under those conditions. So, when the main came, it was very nice.”
The singer added that he became emotional while expressing his feelings before asking her to marry him.
“I just said there was so much chaos in the world and not so many people in the world can find someone they find peace with, at the same time, be living. As I was talking, a tear fell from my eyes, and I asked whether she would be my wife.”
