Forty-eight persons – most of them students – have been killed and another seventy-nine injured today at a school in the north eastern Nigerian town of Potiskum in Yobe state. A suicide bomber, disguised as a student had infiltrated the morning assembly and detonated the bomb, wreaking havoc.
No one was quick to take credit for the attack but given the nature of the attack and the distance from the base of the usual suspects (Boko Haram), it is a safe bet that this is another of their effort in the relentless onslaught of terror against the Nigerian people in a bid to forcefully turn the country into an Islamist state.
A nurse, who plead anonymity, at the Potiskum General Hospital, where the victims were taken, testified that one of the teachers who survived with minor injuries claimed that the suicide bomber had been on the assembly ground with the other students, disguised as a student.
Another teacher at the Government Science Secondary School also testified that 48 people had been confirmed dead and 79 others injured but fears the death toll may rise further, given the severe conditions some of the injured victims were in.
