Social activist and skit creator, Debo Adebayo, widely recognized as Mr Macaroni, has criticized the leadership of the National Assembly for their opulent living standards in the face of unbearable hardship experienced by Nigerians.
Mr Macaroni expressed his dismay over the incongruity between the suffering endured by Nigerians and the extravagant lifestyles enjoyed by their leaders.
He voiced his concerns as he addressed the contrasting circumstances in a recent social media post.
His response was triggered by the circulation of a video online in which the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced during a plenary session that a monetary “token” had been disbursed to his colleagues for their holiday enjoyment.
This development has sparked a wave of negative reactions from the Nigerian public, and Mr Macaroni joined in expressing his frustration. In his post, shared on Wednesday, the social activist questioned the rationale behind impoverished Nigerians having to fund the lavish way of life of their leaders.
“The Senate President has sent very expensive prayers out of the insufficient blessings of over 200 million people to himself and his already blessed colleagues at the National Assembly.
“These are the leaders that have asked struggling Nigerians to make sacrifices if they want things to work in the country. So while Nigerians are going through unbearable hardship, our leaders are sending money to themselves to enjoy holidays.
“Who are those that should be making sacrifices if not for our leaders?
“Do our leaders understand that leadership is about service, selfishness and sacrifice??
“Why do the poor people of Nigeria have to pay for the luxurious lifestyle of the leaders?? Why??? This isn’t leadership!!!”
