Genevieve Nnaji returns after five years since her Netflix original, Lionheart (2018), with her latest feature film.
This time, she steps in as an executive producer for the movie titled ‘I Do Not Come To You By Chance,‘ which is based on Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani’s acclaimed debut novel of the same name.
Delving into the realm of Nigerian email scams, the story revolves around a young man shouldering the weight of rescuing his family from poverty. The narrative portrays the extraordinary lengths he ventures for the sake of his loved ones.
The novel earned significant recognition, clinching the 2010 Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book (Africa) and the 2010 Betty Trask First Book Award. It also secured a spot on The Washington Post’s list of Best Books of the Year.
Taking on the role of executive producer alongside Chinny Carter, Genevieve is joined by actors Blossom Chukwujekwu and newcomer Paul Nnadiekwe in the film adaptation. The cast also includes Jennifer Eliogu, Sambasa Nberibe, and Beverly Osu.
The movie, presented in English and Igbo, is skillfully directed by Ishaya Bako, with Femi Awojide serving as the Director of Photography.
Anticipation mounts as ‘I Do Not Come To You By Chance’ is set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film is chosen as a part of this year’s Centrepiece program, formerly known as Contemporary World Cinema, and is among the 47 featured titles hailing from 45 different countries.
