In recognition of Nigerian afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, also known as Davido, the City of Houston in the United States of America has officially designated July 7 as “Davido Day.” The Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, announced this proclamation in a statement released on Friday in Houston, Texas.
Mayor Sylvester Turner stated, “I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the city of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day.” This declaration came as a result of Davido’s highly successful sold-out concert at the renowned Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Davido himself shared a copy of the official statement via his Instastory, expressing gratitude for the recognition.
It’s worth noting that a similar honor was bestowed upon another Nigerian artist, Wizkid, in 2019. After Wizkid accomplished the remarkable feat of being the first African artist to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, Governor Mark Dayton declared October 6 as Wizkid Day in Minnesota
