In a candid interview on GHOneTV’s popular segment ‘Toast’, Nigerian singer Iyanya didn’t hold back as he discussed his previous romantic relationship with Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson. The interview shed light on their time together, the aftermath of their breakup, and the lingering cheating allegations.
The couple’s love story began in 2012 and quickly became a topic of interest for the public. However, their relationship came to an end in 2015, leaving many curious about what went wrong.
When asked about his message to the public, Iyanya expressed his desire for people to understand that he is not the heartbreaker he’s often portrayed as, “I don’t like the fact that I’m always the bad guy…we should move past this,” he said. “After the tweet, you dropped so many years ago that I couldn’t have a relationship; now you’ve dropped another one, and now it’s a book.”
Iyanya referred to a tweet Yvonne posted, where she mentioned that he broke her heart. According to Iyanya, the tweet caused him to lose around 6,000 Ghanaian fans on Twitter and subjected him to significant online criticism, which he still struggles with today.
He expressed his frustration, saying, “I’ve not recovered from the last tweet that Yvonne said I broke her heart, I’ve been dealing with that since that time. I’ve literally been called a cheater for how many years and I’m still trying to get over that from that and then the book comes out.”
The singer’s remarks were in response to Yvonne’s recently published memoir titled ‘I am not Yvonne Nelson’, which delves into their relationship and breakup. The book, released eight years after their very public split, claims that Iyanya had an affair with Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh.
When questioned about the alleged affair, Iyanya declined to comment on Tonto Dikeh.
