The Office of the Citizen is an initiative of Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE). The project was launched during EiE 5 the anniversary in 2015. The campaign places citizens at the centre of governance with the belief that the Office of the Citizen is the HIGHEST office in the land. This is backed by Section 14(2)(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which states that ‘’It is hereby accordingly declared that sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom
government through this constitution derives all its power and authority’’.
EiE has partnered with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to increase citizens’ awareness about their rights and responsibilities. In a letter signed by the Director General of NOA, Garba Abari, ‘’The agency has given EiE the full right to use the NOA logo on any of its communication materials particularly the Office of the Citizens Passports’’.
Further to this, NOA’s state offices will feature in the Office of the Citizen radio programme across 19 states and assist in the distribution of the Office of the Citizen Passports. This new collaboration will help sensitize and engage citizens through EiE’s Office of the Citizen radio programme across the federation.
The core objectives of the campaign are:
- Educate Nigerians about their rights and responsibilities.
- Create awareness among the citizenry that development and active citizenship are
interdependent and mutually reinforcing. - Empower Nigerians by providing relevant information and solutions on everyday issues
in their community through multiple media platforms and engagements.
