Veteran Hollywood actress Viola Davis recently shared a post on her Instagram handle noting that she feels blessed and excited to be part of the cast for the movie, “Child of Blood and Bone.”
In the post shared, other Hollywood stars of African origin were revealed as some of the stars set to be part of the cast. Some young faces spotted in the cast collage included British star Damson Idris, the breakout star from “Woman King” Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg from The Hate U Give, and Supacell’s Tosin Cole.

However, the cast is way bigger than just the young faces mentioned above. Some Hollywood stalwarts were also spotted on the list which included, veteran actress, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Diaana Babnicova, Bukky Bakray and Grammy/Emmy Award winner, Cynthia Erivo.
Also, additional castings from an open casting call for actors living in Nigeria will be forthcoming.
With this impressive ensemble nearly assembled, production on “Children of Blood and Bone” is set to begin in South Africa in the coming weeks.
The filmmaking team will include Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment, and Karen Rosenfelt of Sunswept Entertainment.
The filmmaking team are the minds behind the “Twilight” series and will produce the film alongside Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures. Adeyemi and Reggie Rock Bythewood will executive produce.
Meet the Nigerian writer behind “Children of Blood and Bone”
Tomi Adeyemi (born August 1, 1993) is a Nigerian-American writer and creative writing coach. She is best known for her novel Children of Blood and Bone, the first in the “Legacy of Orïsha” trilogy.
Adeyemi’s best-selling novel to date is; Children of Blood and Bone published in 2018. When it was published, it debuted at number 1 on The New York Times Best Sellers List and won the 2018 Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy.
It also won the 2019 Waterstones Book Prize and the 2019 Hugo Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book.
In 2022, Paramount Pictures President and co-CEO Brian Robbins and Motion Picture Group co-presidents Daria Cercek and Mike Ireland acquired the rights to the “Legacy of Orïsha” trilogy in a highly competitive bidding war.
Apart from Children of Blood and Bone, there are two other books which came as sequels to the first one which are;
“Children of Virtue and Vengeance” and “Children of Anguish and Anarchy”.
Collectively, all three make up the trilogy of the “Legacy of Orïsha.”
