Tyler Perry, the Hollywood filmmaker, says he will never get married. He cited what he described as the “divorce pandemic” and its financial and legal consequences.
The 57-year-old actor, who has never been married, spoke about his decision during a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Perry shares 11-year-old Aman with Gelila Bekele. He said his decision is not due to a lack of love. Instead, he wants to protect what he has built.
The filmmaker pointed to the financial impact of divorce as a major reason for his decision. He said he has seen people lose their wealth after their marriages ended.
“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.
Perry also said getting older has changed his priorities. He now wants to spend more time with his son and enjoy life.
“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”
In 2020, Perry opened up about being single and experiencing a midlife crisis.
“This is what a midlife crisis looks like. I’m 51, single, and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like. Whatever it looks like,e I’m going to walk with God, be the best father and man I can be,” he wrote at the time.
