Although Grand jury decided not to indict anyone in the death of Sandra Bland, an officer has been charged with perjury.
28 year old Sandra Bland was arrested at a traffic stop and died three days later in police custody. She reportedly committed suicide.
The arresting officer, Brian Encinia has been charged with perjury after evidence emerged that he lied in his arrest report.
Officer Encinia had claimed that Sandra Bland was “combative and uncooperative”. However video footage showed that after Sandra Bland refused to leave her vehicle, the officer threatened to “light her up”.
His claim formed the basis of Bland’s arrest as he said he had “removed her from her vehicle to further conduct a safer traffic investigation”
The Texas Department of Public Safety has terminated his employment following the indictment.
