Rapper Lord of Ajasa becomes a US citizen after years in America

Olusegun Osaniyi, the Nigerian rapper better known as Lord of Ajasa, has become a United States citizen after years of living and working in the country.

The rapper announced the development on Instagram on Wednesday, sharing photos and clips from his citizenship ceremony.

In one clip, Osaniyi stood beside his wife, holding the American flag. In another, the couple walked off beaming.

“My people, I’m now a US citizen,” he said.

The announcement drew congratulatory messages from his peers and associates in the Nigerian music industry.

Olumide Ogunade, the music producer popularly known as ID Cabasa, wrote, “Congratulations Lord Oshi”.

Abolore Akande, better known as 9ice, also congratulated the rapper, writing, “Congrats apase1”.

Osaniyi’s citizenship comes after he spent several years living and working in the United States.

Born in Akure, Ondo State, Lord of Ajasa rose to prominence in the early 2000s and became one of the early figures associated with the growth of Yoruba-language rap in Nigeria.

He gained recognition with songs including ‘Ma Yi Lo,’ ‘Le Fenu So,’ ‘Otiya’ and ‘Esa Lo Bade’.

Lord of Ajasa has also worked with artistes including 9ice, Olamide and the late Dagrin.

His contribution to indigenous rap remains a subject of discussion, with the rapper previously claiming that he pioneered Yoruba rap in Nigeria.
