New Music Friday: Fireboy DML, Victony, Blaqbonez drop new songs

Fireboy DML, Victony, Blaqbonez and Solana are among the artistes delivering fresh sounds on New Music Friday, with releases spanning Afrobeats, hip-hop, street-pop and Afro-R&B.

Fireboy takes two spots on this week’s list with tracks from his new album, ZUKO, while Victony gives his viral hit an international twist with the Slick Remix. Blaqbonez also continues the rollout of NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME, as Solana follows up her breakout record with another entry in her Yoruba-inspired pop sound.

Here are some of the notable releases this week.

Blaqbonez Ca$h Out

Blaqbonez keeps the momentum of NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME going with Ca$h Out, the album’s eighth track. The bouncy record blends Nigerian hip-hop and Afrobeats, relying on its catchy delivery to make an impression.

Although it does not stray far from the album’s established direction, the song provides another lively addition to the project.

Fireboy DML ft Lojay Goddess

Fireboy teams up with Lojay for their second collaboration, following their 2024 song ‘Letting Go’. On Goddess, Fireboy’s vocals anchor the record, while both artistes deliver a smooth blend that makes the song one of the week’s standout releases.

The infectious production and complementary performances give the collaboration a strong appeal for Afrobeats listeners.

Victony ft Don Toliver, Summer Walker Slick Remix

Victony expands the reach of his viral hit with a remix featuring American artistes Don Toliver and Summer Walker.

Walker delivers the more compelling verse, while Toliver’s contribution adds to the international flavour without leaving a particularly lasting impression. The remix builds on the original’s appeal without displacing it.

Pheelz Cash Rules Everything Around Us

Pheelz draws inspiration from Wu-Tang Clan’s 1993 classic C.R.E.A.M. for Cash Rules Everything Around Us. The song shifts the focus towards collective financial ambition, but its execution falls short of making the most of the reference.

The concept offers an interesting starting point, even if the finished record does not fully justify the comparison.

Fireboy DML Sex Love Understanding Trust

Another ZUKO cut, Sex Love Understanding Trust finds Fireboy exploring the emotional vulnerability that has long defined his Afro-Life sound.

The track does not break new ground, but its personal approach and familiar delivery should appeal to listeners drawn to his more introspective records.

Gyakie Your Body (Crazy)

Gyakie brings her signature warmth to Your Body (Crazy), a smooth Afro-R&B song centred on attraction. Its relaxed delivery makes it a fitting choice for listeners seeking a softer alternative to the week’s more energetic releases.

Solana O Ri Mi

Following her breakout song ‘Okunkun’, Solana returns with O Ri Mi, continuing her YoruPop direction, which blends traditional Yoruba culture with contemporary global pop.

The new record sharpens the sound introduced on her earlier release, reinforcing her emerging identity within the evolving Nigerian music scene.

Fimi Asiko

Fimi explores divine timing and patience on Asiko, a reflective Afropop record that incorporates Yoruba into its broader pop sound.

While the production does not always fully deliver on its ideas, the song’s theme and cultural identity give it a distinct character.

Chech ft Ajebo Hustlers, Tuff King By Me

Chech joins Ajebo Hustlers and Tuff King on By Me, an energetic street-pop release influenced by Port Harcourt street-hop. Driven by lively production and committed performances, the song is suited to car speakers and street parties, rounding out a week that offers listeners a broad mix of sounds.
