Do2dtun calls out Animashaun over Headies Canada move, denies visa claim

Do2dtun, the Nigerian on-air personality, has clashed with Headies founder Ayo Animashaun over the plan to hold the awards in Canada. The dispute escalated after Animashaun linked the OAP’s criticism to an alleged request for US visa assistance.

The exchange began after Do2dtun questioned the decision to take the Nigerian music awards outside the country. He compared the move with the Grammys.

“Have you ever seen them take the Grammys out of America before? Let’s start there”.

His comments followed Animashaun’s criticism of Nigerian artistes who submit their works for Grammy consideration while allegedly ignoring The Headies.

Animashaun alleges personal grievance

Responding to Do2dtun, Animashaun suggested that the criticism stemmed from a personal dispute. He claimed the OAP was unhappy because he could not help him secure a US visa through The Headies.

“Are you sure this has nothing to do with the fact that I couldn’t help when you asked me to help you secure visa to the US using The Headies as an excuse?” he wrote. “You have my number, you can ask me questions directly.”

Do2dtun says request was about justice

Do2dtun rejected the claim. He insisted that he did not need help securing a US visa. According to him, his appeal to Animashaun concerned a personal ordeal involving his children.

He added that entertainment figures, including Ubi Franklin, had contacted the Headies founder on his behalf.

“I have always travelled to the United States. Had my two beautiful girls there. So maybe you don’t get the jerk, it was never for visa but for justice,” he wrote.

The broadcaster also defended his support for The Headies. He said his criticism came from his interest in Nigerian music, not resentment over Animashaun’s response.

“This shows how much you see your access as power over what it should do for the culture or over doing the right thing,” he wrote.

He further explained why others had contacted Animashaun on his behalf.

“The only reason why likes of Pato and Ubi Franklin reached out to you on my behalf was because of my ordeal with my kids…

“I only spoke as a true culture enthusiast, who is a big voice and who relentlessly supported you against all odds. You have used your power of access as a wielding tool hence you can boldly say what you said…”

Headies postpones Canada ceremony

The 18th edition of The Headies was initially scheduled for October 23, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.

Organisers recently postponed the ceremony to April 10 and 11, 2027.
