Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and Shakira appeared in FIFA’s first-ever World Cup Final halftime show, but fans barely had time to enjoy their performances.

The star-filled spectacle lasted just over 11 minutes. That left most performers with less than two minutes on stage. While the lineup featured some of the biggest names in music, the short format turned the show into a rapid succession of brief appearances.

Madonna Opens the Show

The halftime event began with a pre-recorded segment featuring Madonna, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo travelling through tunnels beneath New York New Jersey Stadium.

Madonna’s performance of “Music” was largely completed before she appeared in front of the crowd. Once on the field, she had only enough time to strike a pose before the show moved on.

BTS and Bieber Get Brief Moments

At the two-minute mark, conductor Gustavo Dudamel led musicians from New York and Venezuela as the Muppets performed the White Stripes hit “Seven Nation Army.”

BTS followed soon after. The K-pop stars performed about one minute and 40 seconds of “Dynamite,” with lyrics adjusted to fit the football theme.

Actor Jason Sudeikis then made a surprise appearance as Ted Lasso. He introduced Justin Bieber, who performed a solo acoustic version of “Everything Hallelujah” from his album Swag II.

Shakira and Burna Boy Take Centre Stage

Shakira emerged as the closest thing to a headline act during the halftime show.

She teamed up with Burna Boy to perform the FIFA anthem “Dai Dai.” The song includes the line, “Here in this place you belong,” which reflects the tournament’s message of unity.

With less than two minutes left, the show returned to the Muppets. They were joined by the PS22 Chorus and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who curated the event.

Together, they performed “We believe in love,” bringing the halftime spectacle to an end.

Opening Ceremony Lasted Longer

The opening ceremony moved at a much slower pace than halftime.

Post Malone performed three songs, including a preview of “Chrome Heartbreaker” from his upcoming album Eternal Buzz. IShowSpeed also received a longer slot to perform his World Cup anthem, “World Cup.”

Jennifer Hudson delivered the U.S. national anthem earlier in the day. Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini also performed FIFA theme song “Desire,” which featured the lyric “Love is the law.
