Burna Boy and Shakira lit up the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on Sunday at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

The 11-minute performance made history as the first halftime show held during a World Cup final. Global stars Justin Bieber, Madonna, and BTS also performed.

Star-Studded Performances

Madonna opened the show with a dramatic performance. BTS followed with an energetic set.

Justin Bieber later performed Hallelujah. He ended his appearance with the words, “It’s World Cup, hallelujah”.

Burna Boy and Shakira then took centre stage. The duo performed Dia Dia, their collaborative song.

Their set featured colourful choreography and lively dancers. Children and adults dressed in bright yellow costumes added to the visual display.

Supporting Education Through Football

The Super Bowl-style show was curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay.

The event was designed to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. FIFA said the initiative aims to expand access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.

Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, said the event will help advance access to education and football opportunities for children around the world.

Nigerian Music Takes the Global Stage

The halftime show also highlighted the growing influence of Nigerian music.

Earlier in the tournament, Rema, Burna Boy, and Davido performed at major World Cup events. Their appearances brought Nigerian music to one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.

Burna Boy’s performance with Shakira capped a landmark tournament for Nigerian artists. It also reinforced the global appeal of Afrobeats and African music.
