In somewhat bizarre fashion, Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike has announced his retirement from international football.
His retirement comes after speculation that Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh planned to drop him from the team. He becomes the second player to announce his retirement from the Super Eagles under the new coach after team captain, Vincent Enyeama also announced his retirement.
Emenike has not had as much of an impact in the Super Eagles in recent times, failing to score for the national team since 2013.
Like former team captain Vincent Enyeama, Emenike took to Instagram to announce his retirement. “I am no longer a super Eagles player. It has always being my pleasure to play and win for the team. I am proud of my successful years with the team and I am pleased to call it off at this point in order to avoid insults.” He announced.
Emenike has struggled since the previous season with his team Fernabache, deeming him surplus to requirements before he made a move to Al Ain football club.
