Djokovic Gets The Better Of Murray To Win The Australian Open

Although world number one Novak Djokovic was not at his best in a competition where he saw off the challenge of Stanislas Wawrinka to set up a final showdown with under pressure British player Andy Murray.

Novak Djokovic claimed his fifth Australian Open in a competition where some of the big boys melted and wilted. From Rafael Nadal, who just returned from a niggling injury and was unceremoniously dumped out by Tomas Berdych. Federer was also eliminated.

Very few people would have put their money on Andy Murray who has managed a decent feat of eight grand slam titles; of which he has only emerged victorious twice. The Serb was the overwhelming favorite.

Nevertheless, it didn’t prove to be a walk in the park and it took four sets to complete the victory for Novak Djokovic to win his fifth Australian Open title; 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.

Andy Murray had good words for his opposite number and was gracious even in defeat; “I would like to congratulate Novak – it is a fantastic record and thoroughly deserved,” he said.
