A bench warrant for the arrest of notorious social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) has been issued by the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, in connection with the alleged defamation of Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over allegations of criminal defamation against gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. The warrant was issued after VDM failed to appear in court following a summons on March 5, 2025.
The allegations stem from VDM’s social media claims accusing Chinwo of involvement in a contractual dispute and the alleged diversion of $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.
Chinwo’s legal team has provided documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, disputing these claims and asserting that the statements are false and damaging to her reputation.
In addition to the criminal case, Chinwo has filed a civil lawsuit seeking โฆ1.1 billion in damages against VDM. The suit demands that VDM delete, retract, and publicly apologize for all allegedly defamatory statements made against her and her brand.
VDM has responded to the arrest warrant by alleging a conspiracy against him, claiming that corrupt judges and lawyers are attempting to silence him. He stated that he is currently not in Nigeria and emphasized that he has consistently attended court proceedings related to his pending cases. VDM vowed to resist what he described as a plot against him and declared that he will not be silenced.
The news was confirmed to Channels Television on March 13 by VDM’s lawyer Deji Adeyanju, โYes, a bench warrant has been issued against him for failure to show up in court. They are just interested in a media trial; they are not serious about prosecution,” he explained.
Adeyanju further clarified that he had earlier asked the court to let him appear in place of VDM, but the plea was turned down, emphasising that the social media star would be making his appearance alone.
