Burna Boy Meets Shakira: How Nigerian Music Is Winning Latin American Audiences

Burna Boy meeting Shakira, Wizkid joining Rauw Alejandro and Rema working with Anitta show how Nigerian music is reaching Latin America.

Spotify’s Global Impact List for the first half of 2026 highlights five Nigerian tracks with strong international streaming performance. Notably, several tracks on the list are cross-cultural collaborations.

At the top is Burna Boy and Colombian star Shakira’s Dai Dai. The song is the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It also blends Spanish and English, bringing African and Latin American audiences together.

Meanwhile, Rauw Alejandro, Rvssian and Wizkid feature on PONGO. The track further shows the growing link between Nigerian and Latin American music.

Rema also appears on Goals with Brazilian singer Anitta, K-pop star LISA and FIFA Sound. The song blends Portuguese, Spanish, Korean and Nigerian Pidgin.

As a result, Nigerian music is moving beyond traditional language barriers. Yoruba, Igbo, Nigerian Pidgin and English are increasingly appearing alongside Spanish, Portuguese, French and Korean.

Spotify noted that the trend shows how “shared creativity and cultural connection matter more than speaking the same language.”

Furthermore, the collaborations are helping Nigerian artists reach listeners who may not traditionally consume African music.
