Arsenal star Bukayo Saka will share his personal journey in a new documentary, “Bukayo Saka: The Time Is Now.” The England international said the film allows him to tell his story in a way fans have never seen before.
The documentary arrives after a remarkable season for Saka and Arsenal. The club won its first Premier League title since 2004 and also reached the UEFA Champions League final. The release also comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Saka is expected to play a key role for England.
A Look Beyond Football
Directed by Emmy Award winner Robert Alexander, the film was produced by Modern Arts in partnership with WhatsApp and Saka. It will stream on Disney+ from June 5 in select international markets.
The documentary follows Saka’s rise from his childhood in Ealing to becoming one of England’s top football stars. It also explores the challenges and pressures he has faced throughout his career.
“This film has given me the chance to tell my story in a way I never have before,” said Saka. “People see the goals and the matches, but they don’t see what it takes behind the scenes, and part of that is my support system, the WhatsApp messages from the people who were there long before any of this who have believed in me every step of the way.”
Saka and Henry Reflect on Success
The film brings Saka together with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. During their conversations, they discuss pressure, resilience and the love of football. They also visit Saka’s childhood home, where his journey began.
Viewers will also learn about the support system behind Saka’s success. One key moment focuses on a WhatsApp message Henry sent after the Euro 2020 final, when Saka missed a penalty against Italy.
“For a few days filming together in London, we were able to capture conversations of honesty, admiration, and love between Thierry Henry and Bukayo Saka,” said Alexander. “The superstars showed us that despite the greatest fame and success, we are all fighting for the ultimate goal, happiness.”
The documentary will also stream later this month in the United States on Disney+ and the ESPN App. FOX will air the film on June 7.
