Ayra Starr Says Music Saved Her From Unemployment

Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has revealed that she would have been unemployed if she had not found success in music, admitting that her career rescued her from relying on her family for support.

Speaking during a chat with EE72, the 24-year-old singer reflected on how different her life might have been without music.

“If I were not doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I do not even think I would be a content creator. That would be a lot of work,” she said.

The singer added, “I would just be vibing in my mother’s house, eating my mother’s food.”

Starr also shared details about her early days in the industry, recalling her excitement when she learned that Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy had been paying attention to her music before signing her.

“I was so excited when I found out they were listening to my music. You know who it is,” she said.

The ‘Sability’ hitmaker further spoke about life in the spotlight, saying, “I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I cannot stop talking. And I feel like I over-share.”

Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr rose to prominence after the release of her hit song ‘Bloody Samaritan’ in 2021. Since signing with Mavin Records in 2020, she has become one of Afrobeats’ biggest stars, earning numerous awards and nominations.
