Ayra Starr Opens Up on Emotional Ayra Starr and ZAYN Collaboration “Heaven Baby”

Ayra Starr has given fans another glimpse into the emotional journey behind “Heaven Baby,” featured on Starrgirl, her latest album. Ayra Starr revealed that the Ayra Starr and ZAYN collaboration happened remotely, yet both artists connected deeply through the song.

Speaking with Complex UK, the Nigerian singer recalled feeling shocked when ZAYN chose “Heaven Baby” after connecting with its vulnerability. She explained that they never shared a physical recording session, but their musical connection shaped the intimate collaboration between them.

ZAYN eventually sent his verse while Ayra Starr stayed in Lagos, creating an unforgettable moment when she first heard his contribution. The singer remembered listening inside her room while her mother shouted nearby, prompting her to laugh about typical African mothers. After hearing ZAYN’s contribution, Ayra Starr admitted she cried because she struggled to believe what their collaboration had become musically.

She also confessed feeling frightened because “Heaven Baby” exposed an unusually vulnerable and intimate side of her artistry to listeners. That emotional honesty reflects Starrgirl, Ayra Starr’s 16-track third studio album released through Mavin Records on August 14. The album features major collaborations with Wizkid, Rema, Leon Thomas, kwn, Danny Ocean, Theodora, and ZAYN across diverse musical styles.

Since release, Starrgirl has enjoyed strong momentum, reaching number one on Apple Music Nigeria shortly after its arrival. The project also debuted at number four on Billboard’s World Albums chart, marking another significant international achievement for Ayra Starr.

Meanwhile, “Heaven Baby” quickly attracted international attention, reaching number two on Apple Music Nigeria and number three on Spotify Nigeria. The track also surpassed 100,000 TikTok uses within its first forty-eight hours, demonstrating its growing appeal beyond traditional streaming platforms. Beyond its numbers, the song represents Ayra Starr’s growing confidence, international reach, and willingness to embrace softer emotional musical territory.

With Starrgirl, Ayra Starr continues expanding beyond Afrobeats while maintaining Nigerian identity, global ambition, and a distinctive artistic voice throughout her career. As “Heaven Baby” continues connecting with listeners, Ayra Starr’s emotional recollection reveals why the collaboration remains especially meaningful personally.
