Nigerian comedian and actor AY Makun has offered to organise a free show for fans in Cardiff, UK, after missing his scheduled performance over a payment dispute with the event organisers.
The offer follows backlash over his absence from the ‘AY Live: Single and Not Searching’ show. AY later apologised and blamed the organisers for failing to pay his team’s outstanding fees.
He said his team had prepared for the event but had not received the balance due since September. He also recalled performing at another event despite a similar payment issue, which prompted him to insist on payment before taking the stage this time.
AY plans free show for November 7
In a new post on X, AY said he was willing to extend his stay after his UK tour ends on November 1. He also offered to rearrange his flights and bring his colleagues back to Cardiff for the proposed performance.
“This is what I want to do: my UK tour ends on November 1st. After that I am willing to stay, change my flight arrangements and organise my colleagues so that I can return to Cardiff on November 6 and give you a free show on November 7,” he said.
However, the comedian said he still needed to secure a venue and finalise other arrangements before confirming the date.
AY also promised to fund the show himself and invite other comedians and artistes who would be available. He added that people who bought tickets for the original event would get priority access.
“We still need to confirm a suitable venue and finalise the arrangements before the date will be made official. I will pay for the show, bring my colleagues, invite other comedians and artistes who would be available for me. So the people who bought tickets for the original show will get the first opportunity to attend,” he added.
AY clarifies ticket refunds
The comedian stressed that the proposed free show would not affect ticket holders’ right to refunds for the failed event.
“Once everything is confirmed, we will explain how everything will work. Please understand that the free show does not remove your right to a refund for the original failed show.
“The organisers still need to explain how ticket holders will receive their refunds, and we have also written to the ticketing company to refund people who paid through them. This free show is something I personally want to do for the people of Cardiff and those who travelled to Cardiff.”
