Apple Raises Apple Music Subscription Costs Across Key Plans

Apple has increased the prices of its Apple Music subscription plans in several markets worldwide, including the United States, citing rising music licensing costs as the reason for the hike.

The increase marks the first price adjustment for the music streaming service since the fall of 2022. Under the new U.S. pricing structure, the individual Apple Music plan will cost $11.99 per month, up from $10.99. The family plan, which allows up to six accounts, has increased from $16.99 to $19.99 per month, while the student plan has risen from $5.99 to $6.99 monthly.

Explaining the move, Apple said, “As a result of rising licensing costs, Apple Music is increasing its subscription price beginning today.”

Despite the increase, Apple Music remains cheaper than rival Spotify on comparable subscription tiers. Earlier this year, Spotify raised the price of its individual Premium plan in the United States from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. Its family plan also increased from $19.99 to $21.99 monthly.

Launched in 2015, Apple Music offers access to more than 100 million songs without advertisements. Subscribers can download music for offline listening and access exclusive artist content, curated playlists, Spatial Audio and lossless audio quality.

Apple said the service recorded all-time highs in both listenership and new subscribers in 2025, although the company has not disclosed specific user figures.

The company has also continued to expand the platform’s features. New additions introduced in 2025 include Lyrics Translation, Pronunciation tools, AutoMix, Library Pins and in-app Replay statistics. Apple Music Sing also received enhancements that allow users to turn an iPhone into a microphone that amplifies their voice through a connected television.
