One of Africa’s longest serving Presidents, Jose Eduardo Dos Santos has announced that he will step down in 2018.
The 73 year old President of Angola who has ruled since 1979 is Africa’s second longest serving President.
His long years of rule have done nothing to improve Angola, with the country struggling with a weak economy and endemic corruption.
He announced his decision to quit active politics inin 2018 on Friday and gave no reason for his decision. Angola is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections in 2017 and it is unclear whether Dos Santos will remain head of his party, MPLA.
