The nature of football is such that aspirations and hopes can be made and dashed in just a week. Isn’t this why we love this beautiful game?

A week ago, Chelsea seemed optimistic about their chances of advancing to the round of 8 of the UEFA Champions League, they had finally climbed up to 10th on the league table and they had the FA cup quarter final to look forward to.

They were effectively in touching hope of winning silverware until their rollercoaster of a week commenced.
PSG knocked Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions league in emphatic style with a victory at Stamford bridge to send one trophy hope out of the window.

The FA Cup remained the last realistic hope of silverware but former Chelsea reject, Romelu Lukaku had other plans.

The Everton forward netted a brace to send his team into the Semi finals and send his former team, Chelsea into mourning.
The highlight of his performance was a delightful solo run for his first goal that left Gary Cahill spinning like a bottle top.

Chelsea forward Diego Costa then received his marching orders as he received his first red card in a Chelsea shirt.
