Disney+ Strikes Global Pokémon Distribution Deal Ahead of New Aardman Series

Disney+ has inked a global distribution deal with The Pokémon Company International. The deal includes a new stop-motion series from animation studio Aardman, which will debut in 2027.

The agreement also covers Pokémon the Series: The Beginning. The series began airing on Disney XD earlier this month. It marks the first title to launch under the new global distribution deal.

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning follows Ash and Pikachu as they explore the Pokémon world. The show is now streaming on Disney+ in the US and some international markets.

The new stop-motion project is titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. It will debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney+.

The series follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu on a journey through the Galar Region. The pair sets out to help and protect other Pokémon. Their missions often go wrong, but the challenges strengthen their friendship.

Aardman’s creative team includes director Tom Parkinson, creative director of IP development Nat McKay and model-making creative lead James Young.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids and Family, said: “Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today.”

She added: “This new series ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu’ brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love.”

Pokémon director of original animation Phil Rynda said: “These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman.”
