Seyi Vibez, Blaqbonez, Phyno, Cheque and other African artistes have released new songs this week. The latest records span introspective R&B, confident rap, Afro-pop and Afro-dancehall.
Seyi Vibez explores R&B
Seyi Vibez makes one of the biggest changes on the list with Back 2 U. Known for high-energy street-pop, the singer takes a slower and more vocal-driven approach on the R&B track.
He moves away from his usual Fuji-infused melodies and heavy Amapiano percussion. The result gives him room to explore a softer side of his artistry.
Phyno delivers an emotional record
Phyno also steps away from his familiar sound on Healing. The rapper replaces his indigenous Igbo rap style with acoustic guitar loops and soft synths.
The mid-tempo record deals openly with loss. Its reflective tone also allows Phyno to show a more vulnerable side of his artistry.
Blaqbonez and Zinoleesky hold their lanes
Blaqbonez arrives with Big Performer, produced by P.Priime. The Nigerian hip-hop record combines his swagger and wordplay with an infectious Afrobeats backdrop.
Zinoleesky, meanwhile, stays within his established Afrobeats and street-pop sound on Dantata. The song blends electronic rhythms with traditional Nigerian percussion.
Muyeez pays tribute to Fela
Muyeez opens his debut album, All Hail Muyeez, with Water. The song draws from Fela Kuti’s Water No Get Enemy.
The track combines vintage Afrobeat with modern Afro-fusion. Its use of Fela’s classic record is the most striking part of the song.
Joeboy, Cheque and Nutty O release new music
Young Legend, Joeboy and Fxrtune team up on Perspe. The song was released under Joeboy’s Young Legend imprint in partnership with Warner Music Africa.
Cheque also returns with Timeless. The singer stays in the melodic trap space that has defined his sound since Zoom in 2020.
Zimbabwean artiste Nutty O teams up with Nigerian singer Fido on Too Much. The Afro-dancehall record appears on Nutty O’s album, Different Route, and was produced by DJ Tamuka and Infinity Beats.
