Pete Edochie pays emotional tribute to Alexx Ekubo: ‘He came, saw, left indelible impression’

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Alexx Ekubo, saying the actor “came, saw, and left an indelible impression.”

Edochie shared the tribute in an Instagram video after family members buried Ekubo last week in his grandfather’s compound in Abia State.

Ekubo died on May 11 at the age of 40 after a prolonged battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.

Edochie recalls special moments

Reflecting on their relationship, Edochie said:

“All the world is a stage, and all the men and women are the players. They have their exits, they have their entrances.

“Finally, my son, Alex Akubo, has been laid to rest. May the good Lord accept his gentle soul and grant him eternal rest.”

The veteran actor also recalled their first meeting.

“I met Alexx three times. On the first occasion, he came to my hotel with a cow and a set of organic drummers to invite me to the premiere of a film he had made with his friend Stan Nze.

“I got there, and I was ushered into the arena onto the red carpet by masquerades. It was the biggest welcome I had received in Lagos. I am never, ever likely to forget it.”

Final tribute

Edochie said Ekubo later visited him with fruits and presented him with a kola nut and ₦100,000, asking for prayers.

He also revealed that the late actor had planned a grand celebration for his 80th birthday next year.

“Alexx was a man of honour… Alexx came, he saw, and he left an indelible impression,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, David Ekubo, speaking for the family, accused those handling the actor’s death and burial of keeping relatives in the dark about key details surrounding both events.
