Raheem Okoya Says He Built His Own Wealth, Not Living Off His Father’s Money

Raheem Okoya, son of prominent businessman Chief Rasaq Okoya, has spoken up recently saying that he earns his own money and does not rely on inheritance or his father’s wealth. In his interview on Wazobia FM, Raheem emphasized that every penny in his bank account is the product of his own hustle and efforts.

He explained that even though he is not yet where he wants to be in life, he is comfortable with his progress so far. “What I do can afford to feed me,” Raheem said, adding that he is grateful for what he has achieved through work.

Raheem is also a music artist and entrepreneur. In the same interview, he reiterated his determination to build a name for himself outside of his family name. According to him, the fame and recognition may come more quickly because of his background, but he does not want that to overshadow the work he is doing.

He also made a point about his father’s early life to underscore his message. Raheem recalled how Chief Rasaq Okoya once hawked plantain before growing into a major industrialist. He used this part of his father’s story to show that hard work, resilience and vision mattered a lot in building success.

Public Reaction and Context

Reactions online have been mixed. Some people have voiced support for Raheem’s statement, praising his independence and clarity. Others are skeptical, pointing out that coming from a wealthy family provides advantages such as network access and opportunities that are often invisible.

Raheem’s claim comes after past controversies, including a viral video showing him and his brother spraying Naira notes in a promotional clip. The video drew backlash over what many saw as abuse of currency. The EFCC and police got involved, particularly because the law prohibits abuse of the naira.
