At the Ikeja city mall today ( 22/11/14) a fairly familiar scene replayed itself. A man was caught sitting comfortably in a car picking things off with no care in the world. It seemed normal enough except that the owner of the car came to end the party for the thief.
This old man burgled a car parked inside Ikeja City Mall using a master key. The owner of the car went to the kiosk to pay for car parking only for him to get to his car where it was parked and he saw a man dressed in blue ankara stealing valuables he had in the car.
Lagos jungle justice quickly swung into action and the now customary slaps were given. It wasn’t long the unfortunate thief was bleeding and he had a cut on his head.
While we condemn jungle justice in its entirety, it doesn’t seem out of place to ask “How safe are malls”?
These crowded well frequented places have become business hubs for pickpockets, thieves and small time hustlers. And this is not the first time a report like this has been filed.
When all is said and done, car owners should spare a thought to efficient car security systems. It might just be the difference between you and an unfortunate car jacking.
Let’s all remember that Christmas season is here, be careful with your valuables.
