Due to recent heavy rainfall, golfing fans will have to wait just a little longer to find out who will don the blue blazer as the victor of the inaugural Johnnie Walker Blue Label Golf Challenge, the penultimate (third) and final rounds of which have now been merged and will take place on Saturday, 6th September, 2014 at the Lakowe Golf Estate in Lagos, Nigeria.
The prestigious event will see some of West Africa’s foremost amateur golfers vying for spectacular prizes.
Not only will the winner be presented with the first ever JWBL Golf Challenge Blazer – made especially for the occasion by Nigerian menswear designer, Mai Atafo – but they will also attend the esteemed biennial Ryder Cup tournament at the Gleneagles Resort in Perthshire, Scotland, in September as the personal guest of Johnnie Walker.
“The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Golf Challenge Lagos is a fusion of two of Scotland’s greatest heirs – fine whisky and golf, the 600-century-old sport of the sophisticated gentleman. We are proud to bring this prestigious opportunity to West Africa and to expose local golfers to the PGA TOUR’s esteemed Ryder Cup,” says Mr Joe Nazzal, Head of Reserve Nigeria.
Held biannually, the Ryder Cup is one of the world’s great golfing tournaments and is contested between teams from Europe and the United States with the venue alternating between courses in the USA and Europe.
Closely associated with the competition is former PGA TOUR golfer and entrepreneur, Simon Hurd, who has competed against the likes of Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Colin Montgomerie, and whose luxury golfing apparel company, Druh, will sponsor the tournament’s extraordinary prizes.
With Nigeria now part of an exclusive club in associating with the Ryder Cup, the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Golf Challenge Lagos at the magnificent Lakowe Golf Estate promises an iconic sporting event which is set to become a classic in years to come.
