– Gives thousands of limited edition champagne style STAR bottles to guests
Nigeria’s premium beer brand yesterday created history gathering hundreds of thousands of Nigerians for a first of a kind celebratory toast- presumed to be the largest in Africa- to usher in the new year.
The celebratory toast, which was part of the highlights of the Lagos Countdown powered by leading lager STAR, held at Eko Atlantic Victoria Island, with several dignitaries present such as the Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwanu Babatunde Akiolu, former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Abimbola Fashola, Commissioner for Waterfront, Prince Adesegun Oniru, Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Adebiyi Mabadeje as well as several other representatives from the political, business and entertainment arenas.
Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries, Kufre Ekanem, who anchored the celebratory toast, noted that it was in keeping with the brand’s desire to identify with Nigerians on all occasions and also promote the vast tourism potential that the nation possesses.
“It’s in keeping with STAR’s tradition to always refresh celebrations like these,” says Kufre Ekanem, who led the special toast with the STAR Magnum bottle, “this is a very important occasion as we mark the end of a wonderful year and usher in a brand new one with all Nigerians and we’re delighted to be a part of it.”
Senior Brand Manger, Ita Bassey, STAR, acknowledged the enormous efforts the brand had taken to ensure the success of the event and noted that “ For us, it’s only a measure of the commitment STAR has made to ensure growth and dynamism in the tourism and entertainment sector through various channels.”

It will be recalled that this year, STAR also launched a first of its kind multi dimensional music/lifestyle app, which aimed to revolutionize the entertainment industry to massive appeal. The brand also launched the first limited edition beer bottle aptly titledThe Rockstar and has become well known for pushing the envelope with regards to delivering superior satisfaction to Nigerians.
Aside from the historic toast, The Lagos Countdown Grand Finale comprised a series of thrilling musical performances from some of Nigeria’s biggest names in the industry such as 2face, D’banj, Davido and many more. A massive firework display also lit up the Eko Atlantic skyline for almost an hour with impressive configurations.
It’s estimated that so far, over 100 million Nigerians may have seen the celebratory broadcast on multiple channels via radio, tv and web.
The Lagos Countdown is the brainchild of the Governor of Lagos State, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and organized by Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency, LASAA.
The grand finale of the Lagos Countdown was preceded by the popular STAR Beer village which held from December 8 to December 28th 2013 at Eko Atlantic.
The Beer Village, an exciting focal point of the Lagos Countdown, offered scintillating performances from major artistes, branded prizes, gifts and many more exciting daily activities to the over fifty thousand guests who converged there during the period.
