In a recent development at the Federal High Court in Lagos State, Justice Kehinde Ogundare has granted bail to Pascal Okechukwu, widely recognized as Cubana Chief Priest, a prominent businessman and social figure, with a bail sum of N10 million and two sureties of similar amount.
Cubana Chief Priest, known for his celebrity status and role as a barman, entered a plea of not guilty in response to charges related to alleged tampering and misuse of the national currency, the naira.
The charges against Cubana Chief Priest involve accusations of violating the Central Bank Act of 2007 by allegedly engaging in the improper handling of the naira, specifically through spraying and mishandling it during a social gathering held at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024.
During the court proceedings, it was stated that Cubana Chief Priest engaged in these acts while participating in dance activities at the event, where he reportedly sprayed funds consisting of N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria for an extended period of two hours.
Cubana Chief Priest’s bail conditions require him to secure two sureties who can meet the N10 million bail sum, as set forth by Justice Kehinde Ogundare.
