Nigerian Chess master, coach, and founder, ‘Chess in Slums Africa’, Tunde Onakoya, is set to begin his attempt to break the Guinness world record for the longest chess marathon without losing a game.
The attempt would take place in the heart of Times Square, New York City from Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Tunde Onakoya’s set time is 58 hours and he is determined to beat the current record time of 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds which was set by Norwegians, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad on November 11, 2018.
Recall that the chess master and coach first revealed his intentions on April 12, 2024. He said he is taking on this challenge “for the millions of children across Africa without access to education”.
The hashtag #GoTunde is currently trending on X (formerly known as Twitter) in solidarity with Tunde Onakoya.
Goodluck Tunde! Break a leg!
