Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer, Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has revealed her thoughts on a very much controversial topic – the comparison between herself and her fellow superstar husband, Adekunle Gold.
Speaking to African Folder during an exclusive interview, Simi described the comparison between her career and her husband’s as ‘Shallow’ while responding to a question thrown at her regarding her thoughts on her career being compared to that of Adekunle Gold.
She said although the comparisons are expected, they do not hold water since both of them do entirely different things and are on a different journey.
“What gets to me about this question is the fact that I am married to an artist, people then take my life, my music, and compare it to my husband, the father of my child, which in all honesty, I feel is a little ignorant because we are not the same. No one is comparing me to another woman in the industry, but instead my husband. It’s not just very inspiring. We might be a match, but our roles are different”, Simi replied.
The singer also said even though the comparison is shallow, it is expected because “at the end of the day, we are public figures and these are the things we signed up for”.
Simi also spoke on a wide range of topics including her gratitude for the Nigerian female singers who came before her, her personality and voice, and even a subtle revelation about her fifth album being in the works.
